What does PhillyPAWS do?

We try to ensure that people with HIV/AIDS can maintain a quality of life, reducing emotional stress and easing the financial burden that often result after a seropositive diagnosis. Our mission extends to informing consumers about responsible pet guardianship and to educating the public on issues about pets and HIV/AIDS.

Some volunteers provide daily dog walking, in teams or singly, and others clean aquariums or change litter for cats. During hospitalization of their human companions, we visit pets daily at home for feeding, exercise, and recreation. Once a month, a special team of volunteers purchases and packages pet food and supplies, delivering them to the home of each client. A variety of veterinarian-endorsed canned and dry foods is tailored to the needs of each pet, and we accommodate dietary needs whenever possible.

PhillyPAWS volunteers offer transportation for veterinary appointments throughout the metropolitan area, and some of our partner-veterinarians provide house calls. Our veterinarians offer both routine medical care and emergency services in general practice and surgical specialties at reduced rates. For the cats and dogs served, we require
