[diagram of equine gi tract] some things not in the book. there are some folds...mesenteric attachments of part of gi tract. soft tissue between right ventral colon and apex and body of cecum is the CECOCOLIC FOLD. the ILEOCECAL FOLD is between the ileum and the cecum. The CRANIAL MESENTERIC ARTERY is a good landmark. know where it is. the RIGHT COLIC ARTERY supplies the ascending colon, and is within the mesocolon. know the sternal, diaphragmatic and pelvic flexures of the colon, and knwo the renosplenic ligament. note that in horse, cecum: comma shaped, apex faces cranially. in ruminant, cecum is straight and apex faces caudally.
